K9 Miki

K9 Miki was a seven year old sable colored German Shepherd Dog. During the performance of his duties as a police service dog, K9 Miki fell temporarily lame during the track of a suspect. Immediate medical evaluation revealed that K9 Miki was suffering from an unforeseen genetic disorder. K9 Miki was diagnosed with a rare medical condition called Degenerative Mylopathy, a loss of neural function involving the nerves and muscles of the rear legs. Although surgical correction was attempted, sadly, K9 Miki could not be saved. In part, this fund has been created in the loving memory of K9 Miki.

K9 Miki and his human partner, Stephen Keen, worked as a K9 team since 2001 serving the citizens of Calvert County as a highly productive and extremely capable Controlled Dangerous Substance Detection Team, Article Search, and Tracking team. Since K9 Miki's untimely passing in 2006, Keen continues to work for the K9 Unit. His recently retired tracking partner, Elli Mae (a bloodhound) and his current Drug Detection partner Nero (also a Sable colored, German Shepherd Dog) continue to serve the citizens of Maryland.
