K9 Zim is a 5 and 1/2 year old, bi-color, German Shepherd Dog, imported from the Czech Republic. During the performance of his duties as a police service dog, K9 Zim suffered an injury to his spine causing his rear left leg to lose strength and mobility. Diagnosed with a chronic injury to his lumbral sacral space (L1/ L2), as well as the initial stages of fibrotic myopathy, K9 Zim currently suffers from neurological complications, which have resulted. Additionally, K9 Zim is coping with the early signs of renal failure resulting from accidental exposure to heroin during a drug scan. Currently, K-9 Zim exhibits no signs of pain and his unaffected legs continue to compensate for his problem area. K9 Zim, a once fast and extremely agile dog, periodically hobbles from place to place. Either unaware or just unwilling to succumb to his condition, Zim consistently attempts to initiate opportunities to play and work. Yet, seemingly unable to anticipate his loss of balance and lack of control, K9 Zim trips, stumbles, and falls when trying to run and play. Sadly, the qaulified medical expectation is that Zim is not a good candidate for surgery.  Zim's conditions are irreversable.

Fortunately... K9 Zim is a fighter.  His ball, play, and hunt drives are still fully intact and his desires to serve and protect are as strong as ever.  Although K9 Zim must be relieved of his patrol and tracking duties, he and his human partner will continue to serve the law enforcement community in the field of drug detection.
